Government Galore!

My kiddos have been studying government. We discussed the three branches of government, who is in each branch, and the functions of each branch. We also learned about the Constitution, its amendments, and the Preamble. For a bonus, many of my students memorized (some sang) the Preamble. Be sure and have your students check out Schoolhouse Rock's Constitution song. It's very catchy, and kids love it. Why you'll be singing along with them.

Schoolhouse Rock- The Constitution

The students were then to create a visual for the three branches. One visual was a tree with actual branches to include their information. Another visual was the Three Ring Circus (also by Schoolhouse Rock).  I'm proud of my students' finished products.

NOTE:  I do not take credit for being the creator of these visuals. I found them on one of my very favorite sites - Pinterest. You know you love it, too!

Well, we've prepared our students all year with the skills necessary to pass the test (and, more importantly, to succeed in life). For all the Texas teachers out there, STAAR is right around the corner (ahhhhh). This video is super cute and a must see for anyone who deals with STAAR testing. Hope you enjoy!

Enhance Your Students' Writing

This past week at our Whimsical Writing Station, my students enhanced their writing using one of my TpT products, Elaborate the Sentence Set 2. I loved their creative sentences and want to share two final products. Way to go, writing superstars!

Check out this product by clicking here.
Elaborate the Sentence Set 2

The rotten pirate and the rainbow-feathered parrot inspected the great
golden treasure that has been hidden for billions of years.

The shrewd and handsome pirate along with his
talkative parrot searched for the shimmering treasure chest.

Awesome Student Reciting the Preamble

Are your students studying government, the Constitution, Bill of Rights, or the Preamble? I have always LOVED Schoolhouse Rocks' Constitution song.http://youtu.be/FzAJyK0ovo8

My third graders have been listening to this catchy song and have picked it up and memorized it. Here's our first student to recite the Preamble. Way to go!

Have you Heard of this New Incredible Site? You MUST!

Have you heard of Go Noodle? I hadn't until I read about it recently from an educator on Twitter. Sounded interesting enough, so I decided to check it out. Well, on the really frigid days that we couldn't go out, we tried this new site out. My students picked a "champ monster" and off we went  trying to increase our "champ meter." What fun! Yes, I even got into it!

Inside the FREE (did I mention FREE) program, there are many different types of activities to try. Some get the kiddos movin' and groovin' and others calm them down. This is perfect not only for inside recess but also for brain breaks.

You must check this site out. Genius!

So TRUE! Happy Tuesday!

We really do teach from the heart (not always from the book, our lesson plans, our a particular electronic device). It's those teachable moments and life lessons that children remember for a lifetime!
